Presentation of FGFW

Fédération des Groupes Folkloriques Wallons (FGFW - Walloon Folkloric Groups' Federation) (website) was founded in 1960, following the 1st International Folklorists' Congress. The founding father of FGFW is Arthur Haulot, then General Commissioner for Tourism.
The FGFW aims at promoting the traditional Walloon folklore and protecting it against abusive commercial use, plagiarism and caricature, and at promoting authentic and quality Walloon folklore abroad. Its members are:
- traditional groups, recognized as authentic and having maintained activity for more than one century;
- traditional dance groups, performing only traditional Walloon dances in authentic or carefully reconstituted costumes;
- groups of folkloric or historic inspiration, presenting a new folklore based on authentic Walloon folkloric or historical traditions;
- carnival and pageant groups;
- groups of vocal and musical traditional expression, performing traditional music and songs;
- groups of festivals and popular games, organizing a traditional local festival.

Flag of FGFW

The flag of FGFW (photo) is square, yellow with the emblem of FGFW in the middle.
The emblem of FGFW is made of a stylized coq hardi, "shaped" with the letters "FGFW", surrounded by the name of the federation. The flag appears on a photo taken during the 7th Cantaréu international folklore festival, organized in 2003 in Vila Real (Portugal); the flag was brought by Compagnie folklorique Fanny Thibout et les Tiesses di Hoye (website), from Beyne-Heusay - the company proudly "shows the flag everywhere".
